The San Juan County Marine Resources Committee (MRC) is a citizen-based advisory committee dedicated to the protection and restoration of marine resources in the San Juan Islands.

The MRC receives funding and support through the Northwest Straits Commission (NWSC) and San Juan County. MRC members, selected by the San Juan County Council, represent local government, tribal government, and the scientific, economic, recreational and conservation communities.

Marine Stewardship Area
In partnership with the Northwest Straits Commission and the Nature Conservancy, the MRC is engaging citizens, scientists, conservationists, business community leaders, and managers in the development of an action plan for the San Juan County Marine Stewardship Area. Read More.

Marine Stewardship Area Workshops
The San Juan Marine Resources Committee is hosting four community workshops on the four ferry served islands this spring to obtain public input on the Marine Stewardship Area Plan. Please come to a workshop and let us know what you think should be done to protect and restore habitat, water quality, fish, orcas as well as the quality of life and culture of the San Juan Islands. Public comments will complete the MSA Plan which goes to the County Council in June. The last meeting in this series will be held on Orcas Island in the Madrona Room at Orcas Center on Saturday, April 21 from 9 am to 1 pm. If you can’t come to the meeting but want to provide input, contact Mary Knackstedt at maryk@co.san-juan.wa.us, (360) 370-7592.
